What Are You Reading Wednesday? : July 18, 2018

What Are You Reading Wednesday was created by RhiannaMarissa, and Kendall. The idea is to create a space for book lovers to share, discuss, and recommend the books they are currently reading and loving. All you have to do is answer the questions about your current read and then head over to one of the host’s sites to link up your post! Have fun and don’t forget to check out everyone’s posts as well!

Everyone knows what happens in the end.
A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss.
But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends.
One feared, one royal, and one already dead.

Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch.

A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.

But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain.

The rise of Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic villainess is a heart-wrenching story of friendship, betrayal, and a girl pushed beyond her limits—to become a monster.

1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?

Content, I’m a big fan of classic fairy-tales, (especially those of Hans Christian Andersen and The Brother’s Grimm), and am also a fan to retellings.

2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?

Hmm…I like Evie and Annamette, but I think I prefer Nik and Iker.

3. Will you finish this one?

Yes, but I’m not as impressed as I had hoped. I might still be surprised, but I’m thinking it will likely be a 3 star read…

4. This book reminds me of…

Hmm…For some reason Evie reminds me of Arsinoe, and maybe a little of Katharine from Three Dark Crowns.

5. What type of read is this one? (Slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

Slow, but interesting. While it doesn’t have the ‘wow’ factor, and so far it doesn’t have any major twists or surprises, it’s a fun read, and I’m interested to see what happens.
