First Impression: 6/22/18 Smoke and Iron

I found this meme on Joe @Storey of Stories‘s page called “First Impression”.

It will be a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only two sentences in the book, a chapter or two , maybe a little farther.  The goal is to  give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.  It will be fun to go back to this post once you’ll have finished the book! Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you right all along?

• Based on this sampling of your current read, give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.
• Did you think you’d love and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you exactly right?
• Link back to Storeys of Stories so I can enjoy reading all the First Impression Fridays out there!

From Goodreads:

To save the Great Library, the unforgettable characters from Ink and Bone, Paper and Fire, and Ash and Quill put themselves in danger in the next thrilling adventure in the New York Times bestselling series.

The opening moves of a deadly game have begun. Jess Brightwell has put himself in direct peril, with only his wits and skill to aid him in a game of cat and mouse with the Archivist Magister of the Great Library. With the world catching fire, and words printed on paper the spark that lights rebellion, it falls to smugglers, thieves, and scholars to save a library thousands of years in the making…if they can stay alive long enough to outwit their enemies.
When he hears that a cure for his father lurks in the belly of a great sea-dwelling beast known as the mormorach, he embarks on an epic journey down the river that his family has so long protected—but never explored. Along the way, he faces death in any number of ways, meets people and creatures touched by magic and madness and alchemy, and finds courage he never knew he possessed.

36395299Finally! I’ve been so looking forward to this one after reading my ARC of Ash and Quill (#3) last summer! (I’ll admit, the first chapter in this prompted me to read the last 2 chapters of Ash and Quill, just as a refresher since so much happened!) After DNFing some of the titles I had been looking forward to, it’s so nice to reunite with some of my favorite characters, and to read a story I’m sure to love!

Last week’s book was Riverkeep. While it sounds like something I would like, I doubt I’ll love it, so I’m putting it on hold. Like with Lifelike, I’m struggling with the characters dialog.
