Five hundred years of war have just come to a bloody end in one great catastrophic blast. Who won? Taurok is not sure. It was not the loyal Royalists—they are all dead except for a few stragglers like himself. Not the Rebels, surely. Their casualties were just as great. Too stubborn to die, the giant Zendalian is hunted relentlessly through the ruins of the once great city when he stumbles upon a dying Royalist soldier. Mortally wounded, Taurok settles beside him to sing the death song that will take them both across the Veil to the halls of the Gods of War. But the dying boy has other ideas. He is a she and she is Ancellian, which makes her the last Queen of the Crimson Eyrie. This changes everything. Fierce are the people of Zenal but none are fiercer than the Ancellians. Red Moon is her name. The people of Zenal have served the Royal household for ten thousand years. Lying next to her in the dark, Taurok pledges his allegiance to this tiny queen, knowing that if she lives she will destroy everyone who has ever transgressed against her kind. Hope fills Taurok’s heart as he dreams of getting his revenge for the death of everyone he has ever loved. All he has to do is keep her alive.

Author Interview:

1. Taurok’s Vengeance is the start of a new series, what can you tell us about it?:
In Taurok’s Vengeance you are introduced to the Red Moon and Taurok, survivors of the last battle of the 500 year rebellion. Taurok’s species are long-lived giants loyal to the Royal family. Red Moon is the last remaining survivor of the Royal family, a nearly immortal race of beings who can trace their lineage back to the times when the god-like First People were busy messing with Creation. They find each other in the smoking rubble of a city destroyed by the Rebels and team up in order to escape. A hard thing to do in when the city is infested with Rebel soldiers intent on hunting out the last of the Loyalist army and killing them.

Taurok is a warrior. All he wants is to avenge his brother’s death. If the stories are true about the Royal family, Red Moon has the power to grant him that wish. If he can just keep her alive long enough to help her figure out how to do that.

Red Moon, heartbroken and angry, would love to accommodate Taurok. There is just one problem. Injured, time has become muddled inside her head. It makes it hard to remember who is alive and who is dead. Harbinger or Far Ranger? Leto or the Wizards? Taurok must help her. He is her only link to a past that she has been cut off from all her life.

2. Who are some SFF authors or books that inspire you?
My favorite authors are still the classic sci-fi and fantasy writers: Ursula K. LeGuin. Anne McCaffrey, Sherry S. Tepper, C.J. Cherryh, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett. Neil Gaiman is also one of my favorites. I have a library of books at home that I read over and over, their covers worn and their pages pocked with dog-ears: Dune, Caves of Steel, The Marian Chronicles, Have Spacesuit Will Travel are some of the books I’m re-reading at the moment. What can I say, I’m a creature of habit!

3. If you could travel to any SFF world, where would it be, and what would you do?
Ooooo, what a fun question. C.J. Cherryh created a world in which you could travel through portals to other places, other lands, other dimensions. Like Stargate SG-1 but more mystical and magical. I would love that. To be a portal master and go any place I wanted.

4. What’s something your readers likely don’t know about you?
I once had a collection of every Hugo award winning book ever written. I gave it away as a gift because I like to encourage people to discover scifi.

5. Any hobbies or favorite activities other than reading?
I don’t know if you would call this a hobby. I am a student of the human condition. I study people. They fascinate me.
