Review: The Arctic Code

22864433 The Arctic Code by Matthew J. Kirby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It is the near future, and the earth has entered a new ice age. Eleanor Perry lives in Tucson, one of the most popular destinations for refugees of the Freeze. She is the daughter of a climatologist who is trying to find new ways to preserve human life on the planet. Dr. Perry believes that a series of oil deposits she has found in the Arctic may hold the key to our survival. That's when she disappears—but not before sending Eleanor a series of cryptic messages that point to a significant and mysterious discovery. Now it's up to Eleanor to go find her.

This search will launch Eleanor on a breathless race to unlock the mysteries of what has happened to our planet, solving the riddle of the cold that could be humanity's end—and uncovering a threat to the earth that may not be of this world.

Another library pick I stumbled on. This one caught my eye at the library, and though I had never heard of it, the cover and the title grabbed my attention. I later found out it's sci-fi, (view spoiler) something I'm not often the biggest fan of, but this one pulled it off! When a book leave me reaching for the next in a series right away, I know it was a good pick!

The story was interesting and well written, the characters fun and entertaining. I loved Luke most of all, but also enjoyed uncle Jack, Elanor and Finn. As soon as things started happening, it was a snowball affect to the end, and as the first book, it seems things are just getting started! I'm excited to see what happens next, and can't wait to follow them on their next journey. (Sadly my library doesn't have the next two books, so it will be a little while before I can find out)

A few things I didn't like was that this book did have some cussing, which wasn't bad, and only happened a few times. I also used Lord and God as curses, and mentioned suicide casually a few times, but overall those are all minor things, and for the most part I really enjoyed reading this!
