Blog Tour: Treacherous Deceit (Review & Excerpt)

Zola Blue
Adventure, Thriller, Mystery

the Yukon, nothing is more important than family. Loyalty to her
family is what Mona must face when her Grandfather, who rescued her
from death as a child and raised her as his own tells her she must
return to the Yukon from New York to go into the mountains and search
for the ancient village of gold that is her legacy.
that the ancient village exists, her grandfather sent his team on
ATV’s to find it while commissioning his adopted son Jonas to lead
the others, including his cherished granddaughter.

Jonas is happy to lead the
expedition while planning on somehow getting Mona alone. His plan
goes astray when they are forced to team with four other unexpected
seekers, including Bryan, a geologist who immediately falls for Mona
and becomes an interference for Jonas. The team overcomes severe
obstacles, setbacks, and loss of lives while traveling through water
filled caves and treacherous mountain passages.
Review: An exciting adventure story! Ms. Blue did her research, and it shows! Extremely life-like, and easy to imagine, join this rag-tag group of characters in their hunt for gold!

After the meal they rested, and at least for now everyone appeared calm. Mona was glad for that. While they sat around a small fire burning in the hibachi, an enchantment she could not explain had seized her. “This area has always been known for its abundance of caves and caverns. That is why my people settled here in the first place my Gee-pa told me; the grottos were great protection and shelter for the women and children,” she said, tranquility and peace with her surroundings satiated her.
“Yes, I read that too,” Bryan replied. “I am assuming these caverns were once safe havens in the rock cliffs. They said the village buried itself beneath the ground when it disappeared.”
“Yes, we were cliff dwellers,” she said smiling.
Bryan smiled back at her, reached over, and took her hand in his; she moved closer to him.
“What are cliff dwellers?” asked Sean.
“Well, my Gee-pa told me, in the village of Goldum all the houses were built within the cliffs; the only way out was through passages built within the mountains,” she answered.
“Oh I bet that was fun to live in,” giggled Tracy, she felt lightheaded and blithe; she leaned her head against Willie’s shoulder.
“Oh this is very exciting I am sure,” Willie said, his words reeking with sarcasm, “but I didn't come all this way for a history lesson. Did he tell you how much gold was there?”
“That what I want to know too Willie,” Sean laughed.
“Oh Willie, you are so funny,” Tracy giggled playfully throwing her arms around his neck. “It does not hurt to know about the mountains, after all, we are beneath them.”
“Anything for you baby,” Willie replied and kissed Tracy on the nose. “Anyone want a drink?” Willie asked holding up a bottle of brown Bacardi rum.
“I do,” answered Sean.
The blue haze surrounding the stalactites hanging from the ceiling gave him migraines. The intimacy of the room had a different reality and made Jonas feel confined; his only point of sanity was the sound of rushing water running through the river behind him. The mugginess of the cavern, accompanied by the feeling of being trapped and the presence of more people than he was accustomed to, created an uneasiness within him. Jonas’ recluse lifestyle never afforded him much socialization with others, and except for the occasional chat with his prey, and the dinners at Hattie’s, he never spent time listening to others. Jonas made it a point to isolate himself; he found people, and their pathetic ways uninteresting and superfluous.
The redhead’s playful giggling taunts and the girly man’s unintelligible slang made no sense to Jonas; they seemed to speak in a language he did not understand. For her obnoxious silliness all Jonas could think of was stuffing her mouth with one of the ball gags he kept in his workroom. Jonas rarely gave his prey the ability to communicate. He glared scornfully at Mona then Bryan; watching the two of them chat like old friends made him angry.

I allowed God to take over my life, over the years, he healed my
heart and with the guidance of his Holy Spirit, a new life developed
within me. God put a new dream in my heart. Over the years, I spent
several years in the US Air Force, and later achieved a BA in
Psychology and the academic level of Master’s Degree in Business
and currently work as a professional in the insurance industry.
Married, I live with my husband and sweet puppy Tomasina. I have two
books currently published, Porcelain Doll and Treacherous Deceit and
I am currently finishing my third, a fantasy series called "The
Kingdom of the Mejuar."

Review: I really enjoyed The Truth Will Out! I loved the characters, and the suspense was just right! This one kept me guessing, and I read it in one big gulp! While I would of loved more scenes with Sarah and Ryan, for they type of story this is, their relationship flowed smoothly and they worked well together. I loved how the story unfolded, and the plot was well paced.

Karen J Mossman comes from a family of journalists with her grandfather and uncle having been newspaper editors. Further back a 2x grandfather wrote for his local paper and also published a book based on those articles. Karen is the only one to go into fiction.

Blog Tour: The Perfect Tear

The Perfect Tear
by Connie Lansberg
Genre: YA Fantasy Release Date: November 11th 2015

Summary from Goodreads:
Eleanor, a timid orphan, is a Singer. Her songs keep nature in balance, but when they are stolen from her the grey mist descends, and her world fails to thrive. This timid orphan is forced into a course of action she never asked for, nor envisioned. Eleanor grapples with crippling self-doubt and fear until she learns these are far more perilous than the physical dangers she faces moment to moment on her terrifying, puzzling and often funny search for The Perfect Tear, a crystal which contains the Third Vibration and able to heal the land. She is horrified to discover that she must defeat an inter-dimensional being or become his accomplice in the destruction of she loves.

But Eleanor is no savior, just a simple girl with strong instincts and she must learn to trust them. Just like the notes of a song must form connections to create a melody, Eleanor must discover the connections needed to create the harmony required to truly save her world.

The new soldiers, fresh off the ship, marched into the men’s camp. They looked
lean and mean, and carried with them several barrels of rum. The youngest was a skinny lad who’s ill-fitting uniform made him look like he was playing dress-up. He had a snarl on his lips, but his eyes betrayed him as they darted to and fro. Charles rested his hands on his hips and tried to ignore the knots in his stomach
. The original four, who had become slack over the years, had finally earned their passage home. What would they find when they returned? And why were he and these men still here, separated from their families and the home they loved?
He shifted his gaze to the small group of bedraggled conscripts. His chest felt tight and something inside him broke. These unfortunates would share this ongoing nightmare with him and it wasn’t fair. A flood of rage burned his throat and threatened to overwhelm him. He gritted his teeth. He must try something, anything to get these men back home, to find their families.
Charles forced himself to calm down. An idea flashed through his mind, not fully
formed, but he could work out the details later. Charles stepped forward and saluted the soldiers. The soldiers stuttered to a stop in front of him.
“Sir,” Charles said to the lieutenant,“I am charged with keeping your fires burning and the rum flowing. Do you wish for me to continue?”
He heard a murmur from the men behind him, for they knew the second half of this statement to be untrue. He hoped they wouldn’t give him away.
The soldiers looked at each other before the lieutenant barked at him.
“Yes. Continue. Now step back in line.” Charles obeyed, looking straight ahead. A young soldier approached the lieutenant with a question. Charles used the distraction to lean toward the man next to him. He lowered his voice to a whisper. “Back me up in all I say and do,” he said.“I have a plan.”
Characters - I liked most of the characters for the most part. I often felt confused when introduced to new characters, but soon figured out where they fit in the story. While I didn't 'love' any of them, I did enjoy reading about Eleanor and her friends.

Plot - This is what I enjoyed the most about this book. I loved how unique and unusual the plot was! As an alternative creation story for humanity, it drew me in, and kept me wanting more! While much more sci-fi that I had expected going in, I still enjoyed it, and loved how it unfolded!

Overall - While not what I expected from the blurb, I did enjoy this story, and plan to read the next one! It was a nice change of pace, and refreshingly different! My one ... well two complaints. First it did take me a while to get into this one. I reach about 20% before things started to pick up at all, before that a lot happened, but didn't really fit together, that was the point when things started making sense to me. Second, there are some errors that make reading difficult in places. While I understand they happen, the combination of the slow plot and the grammer error made it difficult to follow in a few places. Other than those two things, it was a great story, and I an interested to see what happens in the next book!

"The first thing anybody tells you about this business is to say what makes you unique and different, but I couldn't and the very idea of it never sat well with me and after much deliberation, I finally realized why.
Because, I'm not unique or different-I'm exactly like you and I love that. We each have a unique filter through which we interpret the world, and with this filter in place, I write stories and songs and you might find them surprising or intriguing or confronting, you may relate or you may not. They may make you laugh and sometimes, even cry.
You may or may not understand what I'm trying to say and you may not understand me, however, rest assured, once we get past the filters, at our core, we are wonderfully and beautifully, exactly the same."

Review: Gaston's Tale

31753063 Gaston's Tale by Celeste K. Ramirez
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Thank you so much to Olympia Publishing for the review copy! ( I really hate doing this, but I promise honest reviews, below is my review)

Blurb: A different and slightly modern approach to an already well documented fairy tale, Celeste Ramirez follows her fascination with this genre and yet still provides the necessary ingredients to retain the expected magical mystery aura.
Christine, our heroine, and her brother, Gaston, enter into the world of the Beast with an added sprinkling of the arch rival, LeFou. With castles in the air and magical inventions the plot unfolds. As Celeste Ramirez reminds the reader, this is not the sweetest tale and there is no happy ending... just two sides to every story.
